How do you know if a newborn is hungry?

As Dr. Maria Chiara Alvisi points out in this video , there are several signs of hunger in newborns that precede crying and that you can learn to detect from the first few days after birth.

Here's what they are :

  • Newborn moving pupils under eyelids;

  • baby turning his head left and right with his mouth open looking for the breast;

  • newborn baby “playing” with his lips, sticking out his tongue and mimicking the sucking movement:

  • little one who keeps putting his hands in his mouth.

Up to twenty minutes can pass between the appearance of the first signs and the onset of crying.
