When to resume sexual intercourse after giving birth?
There are many things said about the timing of resuming sexual intercourse after giving birth , many of which are unscientific (unfortunately).
Among these is the advice to abstain for 40 days after giving birth, which is often given indiscriminately to all new mothers and regardless of the type of birth (as we will see shortly, things can change a lot).
What is known for sure is that, as Dr. Alvisi recalls in this video , a woman who has just given birth experiences losses - lochia - and that, if she has been in labor, her cervix goes through a process of reconstruction and closure.
The body in general is the protagonist of a recovery that does not always make it ready to welcome and accept.
Be careful, though: this isn’t a one-size-fits-all rule.
This is why when there are no scars on the perineum - but even when there are and the healing process has been successful, which involves a couple of weeks in cases where the times are longer - and the mother, despite the losses, feels that it is the right time to resume sexual intercourse after giving birth, there are no problems.
This is even more true in cases where a cesarean section has been performed.
After this procedure, there is some bleeding , but not the entire process of reconstructing the cervix and healing the scars at the perineum level.
The limits, consequently, vary greatly.
