Fears and clichés about baby-led weaning

Introduction

Fears and clichés about baby-led weaning : for new parents, these images are almost always the order of the day.

The topic of self-weaning has been much discussed in recent years. Unfortunately, however, parents are not always well-explained how to begin the process in question.

To help you clarify your ideas , I have prepared the article that you can read in the following lines.

As you can see, I've also included an index.

I have inserted it to facilitate your reading and to give you the opportunity, if you wish, to delve deeper into the specific facets of the topic simply by clicking on the paragraph titles.

Now all that's left for me to do is wish you a good read: we'll get into the thick of things with the advice of Doctor Federica Dell'Oro, a nutrition biologist and author of the video course "Practical, easy and stress-free self-weaning" as a guide, which you can find at the end of the paragraph.

What is weaning?

Before getting into the heart of the universe of fears and clichés about baby-led weaning , it is important to be clear about the topic we are talking about.

For the sake of accuracy, I would like to remind you of the importance of taking a further step, that is, understanding what weaning is.

The term I just mentioned, which is generic and we will see why shortly, indicates the gradual transition from a dietary pattern characterized by the exclusive intake of breast milk and/or formula to one that, instead, also includes other foods.

The latter can be either liquid or solid.

Please note: as Dr. Dell'Oro clearly specifies in her video course, weaning is not a synonym for the term "breastfeeding".

The gradual process sees breast milk or formula, which remains, for at least the first year, the puppy's main source of nourishment, being joined by other foods.

To express it truly correctly, one should use the expression “complementary feeding ”.

I have discussed the requirements to start it in detail in this article .

Ideally, complementary feeding should be on demand , with the infant deciding which foods to eat and in what quantities.

The caregiver should absolutely not force-feed the baby just because it needs feeding.

The expression “ on-demand complementary feeding” refers to what, according to experts, is the correct way to technically define self-weaning.
