What is breast vasospasm?

A problem that is not always easy for professionals who deal with breastfeeding to diagnose, breast vasospasm consists of a compression of the superficial blood vessels that supply the nipple.

When this occurs, both the blood flow to the area and the milk flow are reduced.

Vasospasm in breastfeeding: how to recognize it?

The main symptom of breast vasospasm is intense localized pain affecting the nipples.

The sensation can be described as a burning sensation.

When the physiological blood flow to the nipple resumes, you may experience a sensation similar to that felt when a limb “falls asleep”.

Regarding vasospasm pain in the breast , we remember that it occurs when the puppy detaches - it is worsened by the change in temperature - and that it can be accompanied by a change in color of the nipple.

The latter appears to be a color similar to white.

When blood circulation returns to normal, you may notice a further change in color, with the nipple turning red and purple.
