child psychomotor skills

Psychomotricity is a discipline that deals with the development of motor, cognitive and emotional skills of children in developmental age . At the basis of this is the recognition of the importance of integrating the psychological aspect with the motor one, emphasizing the interconnection between the body and the mind during growth and development.

How many times have we observed the little one discovering what surrounds him through first tummy time , then rolling, up to crawling and walking independently? In the child, motor action is closely connected with cognitive development because when the child is able to grasp objects, manipulate them and bring them to his mouth at the same time he is also discovering them and relating them to himself.

In the first years of life, children are not yet able to express themselves well in language and motor skills are the most immediate way in which they can express themselves and relate to the world and the people around them.

What does psychomotricity consist of?

Child psychomotricity is based on structured motor activities, games and exercises aimed at stimulating the child in various aspects of his development. The main objective is to promote the harmonious development of cognitive, motor, affective and social functions , providing children with the necessary skills to face the challenges related to their growth.

The psychomotor activities that are proposed aim to develop motor coordination, balance, spatial perception, body awareness, as well as to promote emotional expression and socialization. In fact, the little one learns to move in the group and respect the times and spaces of his companions.
