In this article I will show you the main stages of psychomotor development of a 7-month-old baby.
Furthermore, I will report the red flags , that is, the red flags that can make you think of a delay in your child's psychomotor development.
What is psychomotor development?
Psychomotor development represents the child's global growth process. This means that it will include different areas:
- Motor and postural development;
- Socio-emotional development;
- The development of language and communication;
- Cognitive development.
Every child is different and has his own pace, but it is possible to identify some skills that are achieved by the newborn depending on his age.
In this article we will see in detail those that are acquired in the seventh month of life .
Motor development newborn 7 months
Your 7-month-old baby , who now loves tummy time , can support himself perfectly in a tummy-down position by extending his elbows and resting his palms on them.
By the previous month, he should have learned how to roll easily from supine to prone (maybe even vice versa) and to rotate in a prone position to reach objects from the side. If he is not yet rolling or rotating effectively, he will improve this month.

The rolling and pivoting stage is joined by the crawling stage in the seventh month , for approximately 25 to 45% of children who have had sufficient experience in the prone position.
It is also important to say, however, that not all babies go through the crawling stage despite having had Tummy Time in the previous months. In fact, some go straight to crawling .
This is why during the seventh month it will be possible for the baby to reach the crawling or crawling stage. Consider that according to some scientific studies, of all the children who crawl, it is estimated that only 50% of them have crawled before.
